Who are you?
It really doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are or what job you have. Just as long as you have a finger on the pulse when it comes to spotting innovations.
Maybe you’re inventing a cool new product yourself that you would like to tell the world about, maybe you spot something interesting at your job, at your friend’s small start-up or your neighbourhood coffee shop. As long as it lives up to below conditions, it’s an innovation.
What is an innovation?
Three conditions should be present for something to be called an innovation*:
Condition 1: New — The NEW Factor
The idea should be new and different from what has been tried before in this context. It doesn’t mean that the idea is new in itself, what has to be new is the context in which it is used.
Condition 2: Implementation — The DONE Factor
The idea has to be executed for it to be innovative. It’s not enough to have a great idea, you need to put it into use. It has to be done to be called innovation.
Condition 3: Adds Value — The VALUE-ADD Factor
A new idea is only innovative if it has a clear purpose to solve a problem, meet a need or satisfy a want. There needs to be a gap that this new idea fills.

Condition 4: Arctic-based
There is a fourth condition for the innovations we post on our website; there must be an Arctic angle to the innovation. Maybe the innovation is made in the Arctic or maybe it’s an innovation that is highly relevant to the people living in the region. How you interpret this is up to you, but we screen all incoming suggestions based on this criterion as well.
